Last Minute Book Ideas

Quick! 7 more shopping days left! I have two more book ideas for you to give. One is for kids and the other is for grown-ups; or teenagers too.  Both are sweet and thoughtful – and both are on my Top 10 List!

The first choice is “Bear Stays Up for Christmas” by Karma Wilson. This is a darling little story of a hibernating bear that is trying his hardest to stay awake until Christmas. As in every “Bear” book, it shows thoughtfulness for others and unconditional love. You will love reading this out loud to your kids, I promise!

The second choice for Our Book Bag is “A Year of Mornings: 3191 Miles Apart” by Maria Alexandra Vettese and Stephanie Congdon Barnes. It is the perfect gift for that someone on your list that loves photography and friendship; or just a sweet book. These two friends that live on opposite sides of the country each took a photograph every morning for a year and blogged about it. It was so popular, they turned it into a book! And a beautiful book it is! I found it interesting on some days how similar their photographs were with subject, colors or lines.

It is always hard to think of something great to get kids for gifts. I always resort back to good ‘ol books. They can never have too many and how fun to find a new story they can get lost in. I will try to post more in the next few weeks as we are shopping for holiday gifts in hopes of helping you out with the kids on your list. {I may throw some in for the grown-ups too}

This first book is perfect for this time of year. “Thanks for Thanksgiving” by Julie Markes teaches children {and grown-ups alike} the simple things to be thankful for. Even I find myself lost in the beautiful illustrations. There is also a page at the back of the book for children to write what they are thankful for. I promise the whole family will enjoy this one!

“Tree Ring Circus” by Adam Rex is a wacky little adventure of a lonely ‘ol tree in the middle of nowhere and what happens as a traveling circus rolls through. This book is full of fun rhymes; it catches even the little ones attention immediately.

I am such a fan of reading and an even bigger fan of reading to children. We have found some real treasures in the last 9 years, and I want to share them with you. Whether you are parents of young children or someone looking for a great book to gift a child, I hope “Our Book Bag” inspires you.

My first pick is “Bear Says Thanks” by Karma Wilson

You will notice I will pick every one of these Bear books. We love them all! I thought this one is fitting with the upcoming holiday season. It is a sweet story of kindness and friendship with playful words. The illustrations are top-notch and bring this story to life for the whole family.

Second pick is our well-used “Jamberry” by Bruce Degen

The bear and the boy go on an amazing adventure through a land of berries. A book full of funny made-up words and  tongue-filled rhymes gets kids of the youngest ages engaged.
